TCCC8 Quick Recap

Thanks to everyone who was a part of TCCC8. We had 250+ attendees at the event, one of the highest turnouts ever. The response has been very positive and we're working to make sure we keep making things better with TCCC9, which should happen sometime in October 2010. All the videos have been posted to the YouTube site - check out the session clips and interviews.

Last Minute Details for TCCC8

Here's a couple of things to keep in mind the day of the TCCC8 event. I'll add to this list during the week as I remember the items I forgot to add the first time :)

Lunch Plans: We won't be serving lunch (although we will have breakfast snacks and coffee along with an afternoon snack). There are a number of places to eat on campus - visit this site for restaurant suggestions. We will be putting together a Jimmy John's order for those who don't want to run out for lunch. Please provide cash only and exact change (i.e. we can't take credit cards or make change - you can find their menu with prices here). By the way, "exact change only" doesn't mean we're expecting you to bring change to match a bill like $7.94 :). We're just saying we won't be able to break a $20 for a $7.94 bill. Just bring some singles and put in a little extra as tip to JJ's. You can make your order at the registration table before 9 AM and we'll take care of the rest.

Parking information: The garage across the street from the event does not take credit cards so be prepared to pay with cash (this is probably true if you're going to park anywhere on campus). Visit this site for more parking/transportation information. Be prepared that your first option may not be available when you get there.

Internet connectivity: There is free wireless available. There is also a paid account that has UM support (the free one doesn't) but those who used the free wireless access point didn't have any problems last time. Visit this site for more information on the free option - visit this site on how to pay for an account. Of course, if the entire campus goes out (like it did for a couple of hours at TCCC7) ... that's out of our control :).

Evaluations: Just like TCCC7, real-time evaluations will be used. We don't have the URL set up just yet but we'll make it available during the event. You can make the evaluations on your computer or your phone.

TCCC8 Session Submissions Are Now Being Accepted

We're now ready to take session submissions for TCCC8. Here's the information:

  1. We'll take as many ideas as we get until March 1st. After that, we'll select the sessions (hopefully we'll have enough!). We realize with those who would have to travel that this may be too short of notice, so we'll try to give those out-of-towners enough notice if their session is in.
  2. You must send a title, abstract and bio to jasonb@magenic.com. We need all of this with the submission you provide.

Also, we will have an "Introduction To…" track set aside. This will consist of 5 talks designed to give the attendee basic, foundational insight into a particular topic. This can be on a programming language, a framework…we're open to your suggestions. If you want to submit a talk for this track, please title your session starting with "Introduction To".

We've also had some suggestions from attendees to have more "non-MS-related" talks. We're all for that. TCCC is a technology-agnostic event, so feel free to speak on whatever programming language/framework/technology/IDE/OS you want to. Everyone is welcome, so long as they want to talk about code :).
